Facing an iceberg, a polar bear bathes in a swimming pool: hyperrealism makes the paradox seem almost ordinary. Between artificial comfort and a fragile habitat, this scene questions how we tame nature while allowing its refuges to disappear.

Presented as part of CLUSTER London's AMALGAM exhibition, MAC NEMA's work explores the intersection of contemporary visual art, digital experimentation and surreal imagery.

A giraffe wearing the livery of an emperor penguin: ink-black back, white chest and a streak of gold running up the neck. The savannah has frozen over, the acacias are locked in frost and the animal's breath hangs in the night air. Shot with a raking flash, like a stolen encounter in a winter that should never have existed. The mirror chapter of the series in which Arctic animals borrow the skins of the savannah.

A lion that has traded its fur for the plumage of a snowy owl: a mane of white feathers flecked with brown chevrons, and the bird's same fixed yellow gaze. At dawn the savannah lies under snow, the waterholes have frozen and the acacias rise out of a golden mist. The king of the plains moves through a winter that should never have found him, his breath hanging in the cold air. Another chapter of the mirror series in which savannah animals borrow the skins of the far North.

A surreal series where eye and mother-of-pearl merge: oysters that stare back, faces encrusted with shells. Between hyperrealism and bio-art, a strange and fascinating vision of the living world.
